Make a Lampshade Out of a Starbucks Cup!

If necessity is the mother of invention, then that's how I came up with this idea!
I was finishing up the end of the decor on my kitchen office and one of the last things I needed was a lampshade. I love the cylindrical lampshades that are popular now and figured I could find something around the house to spray paint gold and attach!
*Please make sure to use an LED lightbulb to prevent a possible fire hazard!
Well, I never found anything cylindrical (didn't have any soup cans), but I looked at my Starbuck's cup and thought that it just might work!
I don't seem to have a before pic, but I bet you can imagine what an un-painted Starbuck's cup looks like. I sprayed it with Gold Medal Spray Paint (you can find it at Michael's) and cut a hole in the top using some scissors.
Then I simply shoved it on the lamp where a shade needed to go! Easy.....and free!
That was it! A DIY anyone can do! You can read more about this and find all the tutorials to my Kitchen Office Wall on the blog in the link below!

This looks great, but isn't it in danger of overheating from the bulb since it's just cardboard?

Looks elegant. But because the paper cup is made out of ... paper... how do you make it less combustible in case of an overheated bulb?

Could you not line the cup with tin foil to make it more safe?

I love it and love to see creative, smart (and free!) thinking but just in case, maybe you should ask a fireman friend then you can rest easy with a clear conscience. 😊
