Master Bathroom Makeover on a Budget!

I would have loved to rip out the entire thing and start over but WHAT TO DO ON A BUDGET??

So here was my solution for a more updated beautiful bathroom that would not break the bank.

I left the shower surround and tub surround the same, but everything else I took out and started from scratch. New shower door, new toilet, new cabinet in the toilet room, new fixtures, new lighting, new cabinets which I measured and then ordered from Lowe's, new sinks and then I had a granite company cut a remnant granite for my master bath which made it less expensive. The tall cabinet we did not attach to the wall nor made it permanent in case we got tired of it or ever sold the house and the new owners did not like the look. I wanted more storage so therefore that tall cabinet even though it might not be the most pleasing aesthetic design. Except for the granite, I installed everything myself, with a little manly brawn to carry the large items and help me move them around and position them, other than that it was all me.

3 weeks? hmmm I don't feel so bad that I am at the 3 week mark on my bathroom remodel since I took everything out - walls, electricity, all plumbing, window and even the flooring. I am now at the point to install the drywall after repairing the sub flooring and installing the new electrical, plumbing, insulation and window.

The only things I like are the new floor and the new counter top. I would have kept everything else from the old bathroom.

We were having 18 by 18 slate tile put in our sunroom, den and kitchen and continued it down main hall and into guest bath. Well that made the old counter look bad...so we put new top on the counter...removed the old set in sink...glass vessel bowl..and tiled the top. New toilet as well. Total cost around $500! (wish knew how to insert picture..it turned out beautiful)

Ana, The big end cabinet blocks the window & tub a bit much for me but you did an amazing job. Did you make the art work? It looks interesting. I wonder too if adding decorative tile like you did above the shower enclosure would be an easy way to enhance any room without too much cost - presuming it relates to other areas in the bathroom. Thanks for the ideas.

With this bathroom color maybe a Venetian oil rubbed bronze on all hardwares could make a nice combination.

Thanks everybody, the cabinet to the side is removable, we did not attach it in a permanent way to the bathroom so we could remove it at any time, we needed more storage as we have no linen closet but knew it might look a bit obstructive, so wanted to be able to remove it if we ever sold the house. BUT we LOVE the storage it gives us, as I like everything tucked away.

I love your bathroom makeover. You would be more than welcomed in my house to do what you would like, if you run out of things to redo at your own home!

Great job..it can be amazing what a bathroom facelift can look like when you convert the basics AND think, you don't have to become penniless to do it! Well done Ana!

LOL, Terri, lack of projects I have not, right nowam working on the yard, we have issues, big issues with it. No sun back yard and it is impossible to get grass to grow there, so am trying to landscape it some.

Ana, I will trade you some of my sun-filled yard, for remodeled masterbath. The only place I really have shade is behind the fence, and underneath the carport! Please, pretty please???

I totally get that Terri, I do love sitting on our back deck middle of summer, it never gets hot. But the plant issue is a problem :)

How about if I come south to take care of your plants and you come north to do my masterbath? (lol). Next time I am that far south again, I won't come back north of my own free will.

another few tips to save money on a remodel - go to your local hardware store and check out their "mistake/reject" mixed paint to see if they have a color you like since you can usually get these for next to nothing. Plus check out your Tile store to see if they are discontinuing a tile that will work for your remodel since many times they mark these down drastically just to get rid of them. We got our paint for $4.00 and the tile was $20.00 for our 9x12 bathroom.

Wow - you really do it all....another great project. I love the blue on your walls in the photo looking in to the bathroom. Check out the shades of blue in these chalk paints. You could do lots of great accessories! Adheres to anything. I love doing lamps. LOL www.shabbydaze.com
