Can anyone recommend a good water softener?

We have had a kenmore which did the job ok, but it recently conked. We have very hard water and it has lots of iron in it. We are looking for something relatively inexpensive (less than $1000) that wouldn't be too hard to install and maintain ourselves.

Whitney...for some back ground info check out this link http://www.pelicanwater.com/ It explains some of the "science" of what a water softener does. the salt free systems use a bit new tech. For your Iron problems you may need a combo system. You should have you water tested to target your specific needs. I had a client who thought she needed a big complex system, as it turned out we installed a basic pH system as her water was acidic ..and that was the "root" to other problems.

Hi @Whitney J - we might be a little late on this, but we sale water filtration products and can connect you with a water specialist to ensure you get the right product for your type of water. Let us know if you're interested!

There so many sites that deal with domestic cheap water softeners. You can check out softwaterguide.com for reviews.
