Celebrate nature's bounty and make this easy DIY harvesting basket using pallet off cuts, chicken wire, a bicycle inner tube and some sisal rope.

It's just the right size and it's perfect for harvesting, washing and carrying fresh, home grown veggies.

You'll need:

- 2 15 cm x 15 cm pallet off cuts (side pieces)

- 2 39 cm x 3 cm strips of wood

- 35.5 cm x 6 cm strip of wood (bottom of the basket)

- plastic coated chicken wire cut into a 39 cm x 45 cm piece

- 4 wood screws

- a thick sisal rope (about 1 meter)

- a bicycle tube inner

- A stapler gun and food safe wood stain

It literally took me less than an hour to make the basket. Cut the pallets according to the measurements given above - make sure the pallet hasn't been treated with any harmful chemicals. Seal the wood with a food safe wood stain.

Cut the chicken wire and use a staple gun to attach the wire to the 39 cm strips of wood to form a basic frame. Attached the frame to the two side pieces with the wood screws.

Staple the chicken wire around the outside edges of the side pieces to make the basket. Flip the basket over and staple the 35.5 cm piece to the bottom of the basket.

Our Cleo making sure the knot works, lol!!

Tie a knot on one end of the sisal rope and screw the knot into one side of the basket. Slip the bicycle inner tube over the sisal rope and then tie a knot at the other end. Screw this end to the other side of the basket.

Sisal rope can be a bit harsh on your hands when you'r picking veggies so the inner tube gives some protection.

Now we can pick our veggies and wash them off all at the same time.

I love this and many of your other projects, but would you mind including USA measuring system to the instructions? It’s time consuming to have to covert everything in the post. Thanks for all your good ideas!

Love Calico cats too. My sister had one named Johnson after Laugh Ins Artie Johnson and would call her JJ. Such a pretty cat. Love the colors. I too am a cat person. Had two in my lifetime. One half Siamese and Tabby named Dino after Dean Martin and a stray that rescued me named Buddy who was an orange and white cat. Both died and I now have a 13 yr old West Highland Terrier dog named Bentley. Considering another cat after he goes maybe. Less work and more independent than a dog. Im favoring a Blue Russian. Love their coats as well. Enjoy Karla Kat. So precious.

Blue Russians are beautiful. I hope your Bentley stays around for a long time still. My Mom always wanted one, but settled for Scottish Terriers instead. They're easier to find here in South Africa than the Westies.

Thank you Michelle. My Bentley is a tough little warrior. Such a strong and stubborn little doggie. Hes a hunter and fearless. But oh sooooo cute. Adorable. We have been thru alot these last 13 yrs together. Each day is a gift with him. Scottish terriers are very similar to Westies but in black. I love animals. They give back so much to us in return. Loyal companions.

That's so true. They give so much without expecting anything in return except a cuddle, a warm bed, and food. 🐶♥️
