An Old Phlebotomy Cabinet Gets A Makeover

This before and after story begins in the hospital. My brother works in the hospital and built this solid wood cabinet for the phlebotomy lab where it held test tubes and other lab supplies. When the hospital decided to finally retire the piece he offered it to me for FREE. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it at first so it sat in my garage for a couple of months. Then an idea came to me.
I wanted something more attractive to hold my printer than the painted metal filing cabinet I had in my master bedroom office nook and after looking at this old cabinet I realized this would work beautifully. The shelves were the perfect size for papers and other printing supplies.

To cover the clutter I built a lightweight door embellished with embossed wallpaper and painted the entire cabinet the same soft blue of my master bedroom. I also gave it a white color wash topcoat to bring out the details of the paper.
I added some small decorative feet to the base for added interest that were sections of old spindles cut to size. I love this cabinet now and it fits my printer perfectly!

Looks great and it also looks like it will last a lifetime. I didn't know test tubes were so heavy. ;)
