I need to remove snapped off hinge screws from the door frame of an external door.

I need to replace rusted hinges on several external french doors. The hinge screws are badly weathered. During attempted removal, the screw heads have snapped off leaving the shaft in the door frame. Is it possible to get the screw shafts out of the door frame without the need to replace the frame? How do I do this?

Brenda....the best way would be to get a "screw extractor" that is of the tubular type. This basically drills out the broken screw along with a plug of wood around it. Once this is out , you can then insert (with glue) a dowel rod of the same diameter as the hole...once that is dried you can pre-drill a pilot hole and install new screws.....I have done this a number of times.
