Recently, I went into the crawl space to change the furnace filter and discovered that the fan was not working even

tho' the heat pump was running. My 1st thought was that the MSP for the fan motor had failed. I went to the thermostat to turn off the heat pump, but the thermostat was not working. I obtained a replacement thermostat, and obtained wiring instructions from the mfg.which is critical! However, the unit would not engage. I contacted an HVAC contractor I know who went on the website and we tried several fixes over a 30 minute period. Finally, he told me to increase the target temp. When I reached 77 degrees, the unit turned on and has been working flawlessly. Nowhere in the installation manual did I see anything about cranking the temp way up to initialize the thermostat.
