What sort of materials do you have available, or plan to use?

I've laid 2 - 12x12 paver patios right on the grass. You need a bag of sand to level the pavers - just step on one corner to see if they're level. Put sand under the low corner and shift the paver a bit to settle the sand. Use the 3-4-5 measure to get the sides at 90 degree angle. You might have to dig out a bit to get the pavers level - I used a small trowel. I've seen the first patio I put in 15 years ago and it's still looking great. Go back after laying the pavers and spray the grass btwn the pavers to kill it. Put sand btwn the pavers after the grass dies or you can use mortar (I used sand and refurbish it about every 3 years. Have fun! K

You may be surprised how inexpensive it may be to have the job done right. I would go to Craig's lIst or one of those Handyman websites and get a couple estimates and ideas off them for free before tackling it yourself. Remember, your home is THE investment that you will earn or lose your money back out of someday, This is the kind of project that will increase or decrease the value of a home in the long term. (those who tell you to put down sand, stomp it by foot until you 'think' it is level are idiots, rain, ice, weeds all in one or two years will have ruined it and lowered your property value)
