New Live-Edge design

Here is a new line of wood tops from Brooks Custom that we've been introducing to designers and architects looking for something different. You can see the outer ring of the lighter-colored sap wood, and we try to keep the natural beauty of tree when we design this line. Most designers are taken back when they see the library of wood slabs displayed. Have you seen this type of table gaining steam lately?

Nice...pair of book-matched slabs, with butterflies too. I have always been a fan of natural edge pieces. I too wish that these become more and more popular...Us custom builders need to eat too eh?

That piece there looks like maple, with some crotch figure. I recently built a desk for a client using walnuts slabs. And in another project a live edge pair of bookcases in Russian Olive.

Yea, we brought up a curly maple table to the NuKitchens 2012 Design Trends show, and it was the highlight of the night. We love them! http://www.liveedgewoodcountertops.com/

I love the wood. I would like to get a slab for a live edge dining table that I would like to build.

Finding affordable slabs can be a challenge.

Check out some of these suppliers.

I picked up a nice Cocobolo slab from Mitch at TEH some years back...Shipping on these can be $$$ so a trip from Vegas to Carlsbad may be in your future.

    KMS.

You are not kidding........ Especially here in Vegas, where the shipping alone will add a couple hundred.

The cocobolo slab picked above was small enough to ship via UPS...it still weighed a lot and my drive used a hand truck to get it to the house...but some of those big slabs can weigh 100's of pounds

Yea, depending on the thickness, those slabs can weigh a ton...Definitely found that out the hard way for the last trade show we set up for!
