Making a concrete countertop

Chrissy
by Chrissy
I already have a concrete surface which was to form the base of an outdoor countertop. It was originally planned to be covered with tile or granite however I like the concrete idea much better. Is there anyway to turn the existing concrete surface into a countertop? Can I sand it down and gloss it or will I need a new mold? Thanks!

I just redid my vanity counter and I LOVE it! I did mine over s smooth surface however if you sand down what you have and get a self leveling patch concrete I think it would totally work! And it would leave a really unique "custom" look! Good luck!!

I would recommend putting the forms back around it with about a 1/2 to 3/4 inch high lip above the highest point and using a simple self leveling "float coat". When it is fully cured it can be polished (stained if you like) and waxed. It should look great.

I prefer to fix steel angle with all edges(5*5) cm. then casting the area by filling screed concrete with (SBR) chemical additions to make fair face you can also paint them as you like.

i live in israel and i suspect things are done differently here but i'll give u a suggestion-u need to put on a tin layer of thinned cement(extra water)& then smooth it with a board-did u ever see how smooth cement steps are-it's also a good idea to score the old cement eith a heavy duty knife for better adhesion-good luck

@Louis Lieberman That is essentially what a "float coat" and it is relatively self leveling. I would also recommend some kind of shaker mechanism like a reciprocating saw to ensure the flow into the crevices and to get the air bubbles out.

There is a special kind of cement u can apply over the rough surface. It will give it a smoother surface & shine. U can apply sealant after or u can wax it too.
