Douglas Hunt on May 17, 2013The only thing that really works is to be vigilant about getting rid of all sources of standing water, and to use a larvicide in ponds, birdbaths, etc.Helpful Reply

Sia@South 47th on May 17, 2013Try these essential oils: Citronella, Thyme Oil, Lemon Eucalyptus, Geranium Oil, Neem, Celery Extract......Just to name a few. BUT, research the concentrations before you mix up any sprays, because even though these are Natural (& have the research behind them that some are nearly as effective as the horrible DEET). They still must be measured out carefully. xoHelpful Reply

Jeanette S on May 20, 2013For sitting on porches and decks, turn on a box fan or two...no bugs fly through the wind. We could not walk to our mailbox without getting bitten 20 times. For years we have put half and half lemon scented amonia and lemon scented dishwashing liquid in a sprayer attached to hose. Spray yard, bushes, ground cover, all plants including the ones in pots, and even some up on roof to run down gutters. When bubbles stop forming, refill sprayer. Spray once a week for 2-3 weeks then every other week and then once a month. They live and die within 200 feet of where they are born. Spray every inch of your yard to form a barrier from your neighbors.Helpful Reply

Maria Salcedo on May 21, 2013I found a natural mosquito trap recipe: Ingredients= 1 plastic 2 liter bottle (empty & clean), I cup of water, 1/4 cup brown sugar, i gram of yeast. take 2 liter plastic bottle and cut in middle creating two halves.Heat water and brn. sugar and let cool on the side.(no need to mix). Add yeast to bottom half of bottle (allegedly yeast produces carbon dioxide, and attracts mosquitos?).Pour Water on yeast, again, no mixing needed. Invert the top plastic half into the bottom one and tape the seams with Black Tape. The open Top is now facing into bottom half of water, sugar, and yeast solution. Some have covered the entire bottle with something black as well. (I used cut garbage bag). Again, color black attracts mosquito's. Don't know if factual. But leave top open. now place to the side for a couple of days, and you will trap many, many mosquito's. Change every couple of days. All natural and it works!! Good LuckHelpful Reply

Anna Ibarra on May 22, 2013Maria, I tried one recipe with 1 cup sugar1 cup water2 cups cool water1 tsp. active dry yeastThen use an empty soda plastic liter bottle and make a funnel with the top cut off and turn inside the bottom half of the liter bottle. It didn't work, but then again I do live near a pool, not in my yard and I have loads of trees. Could be I need a mega dosage of something fierce to compete with my mosquitos. I am thinking of trying Jeanette's S. recipe, worth a try.Helpful Reply

Maria Salcedo on May 24, 2013Hi Anna Ibarra, not sure exactly why your recipe didn't work. Maybe, Brown Sugar v White Sugar?Cold water v Heated water then cooled? 1/4 cup v 1 cup? All I know, last year I used the EXACT recipe mentioned before and I attracted the entire funnel and bottom part of the plastic FULL of mosquitos. So, it does work....just have to follow the recipe. But Jeannette's sounds pretty good too, for the yard. Good Luck!Helpful Reply
