is it true that you should paint a flat coat of paint then a semi gloss on top of fresh drywall?

  • Actually, your first step should be a primer. Some people believe that flat paint will act as a primer but it doesn't penetrate into the sheet rock. It merely sits on top of the dry wall. Out of curiosity. . . you are painting a wall semi gloss?

That's right Kass. Christina go to a paint store and buy drywall primer, it penetrates and seals. After it dries, lightly sand it and apply two coats of your finish paint to look good and last long. Best, Charles
  • As Charles says....get a good drywall primer and put up one coat of that first.
  • Be prepared that semi gloss on a wall will show every imperfection because of the way the light reflects off of it.

Anna, go to your nearest Sher-Wms for a sale on good paint until July 8. Two coats of a top-line paint like SW Emerald will cover a multitude of sins and last you forever. You can post a new question yourself by clicking on 'post'. Best, Charles
