I really liked the garden pallet posted by Cultivator Landscapes last week, so I started looking at what else you could do with pallets. I found some treasures :)
Some good ideas. I wonder if there is going to be a run on pallets now like when I was in college and milk crates used to disappear from all of the dorm cafeterias.
Using pallets is abit risky as you really don't know what they've touched. I keep in mind what they've been used prior for which helps me decide if the risk is worth it. ie: did it carry chemicals or did it ship firetruck parts?
Having said that, I'd NEVER use them in a garden where there's food involved myself.
They are treated!!! And, many of them hold in whatever they have touched, such as food that has been on them. I don't mean to burst your bubble . I think they are great!! Maybe they could be bleached down or re-painted ?
where can I get some plans to build some of those things---the garden bench (sofa) and how about plans for those things in the video? I could use lots of those things!
Personally, I would stay on the safe side as Donna said and never use them for food. There are so many other ways to use them, and lots of other creative ways to grow vegetables.
Shabby, there are lots of vinyl lettering businesses online. I have a silhouette and could do something for you if I have the supplies for what you have in mind, and it isn't a big project. I've also bought a couple of vinyl designs from http://tradingphrases.com . I've been very pleased with their products and customer service.
Theresa, not all pallet wood is treated but lots of it is. I take a scrub brush and bleach to mine, then finish up with soapy water and a good rinse. If one wishes for further protection, using a clear sealer or paint on the wood will also help.
Cool projects, Miriam. We have a ton of pallets at work I've been wanting to do something with. I think first on my list is shelving for my son's room. And I love that compost bin idea, too.

Another site suggested using them to plant vegetables in.
It smells
looks oily
Is stained ...»
Is extra heavy
Too many twisted nails (not worth it!)
It looks suspect period
Here is that post:

Each picture has a link back to the "how to" instructions.
Sheila G does her own, I think. Maybe she has some ideas. I'm forwarding this to her.
