How do I get the screens out of the window frame? Do you do it from the inside or the outside?

The screen material is stretched across the frame and held in by a soft wire like material. There is a groove that goes all around the screen, just pull that out. It may come out in pieces or a long string. You can reuse this so unless its brittle don't throw it away. Once that is removed, the screen will just come off. Reverse the process if you're replacing the material with new screen. (I have to do this this year). Note: They have screen material nowadays that's thicker and better if you have animals that like to scratch screens. Hope this helps.

Every time I've done this job, the screen frame had a rubber gasket forced into a track. I've never seen one with a wire like material. Otherwise the process is the same. Make sure the new screen material is tightly stretched over the frame - use more than you need and cut the excess off when satisfied with the fit and the new gasket is in place. Usually it is better to buy new gasket with new screen for more flexibility.

Your question puzzled me at first. It sounded like you just wanted to get the window screen in its frame our of the window frame. To clean the window and he screen maybe? In which case, the aluminum framed ones are spring loaded inside the window frame, and usually pryed out from the bottom with a putty knife, from the inside, or outside actually.

Warren, you are the only one who answered my question that I posed. I know how to replace window screen, the problem is I haven't figured out how to get the window screen out of the window frame. You came through for me. Thanks so much. I will try your method with the putty knife.

Screens are inexpensive to be rescreened by a professional. We just took a bunch in, about $10.00 per screen. By the time you purchase the screen, the rubber gasket and do all the work...it is so worth it.
