Today's Pollen Count In Atlanta = 8164 - Here Are 8 Ways To Keep Pollen Out Of Your Home!

With numbers like these, keeping all the pollen out of your home may not be possible. However, there are some simple steps you can take to reduce the amount of pollen that enters your home.
1. Keep your windows closed! (duh) Even though it's gorgeous outside the little unseen pollen predators are just waiting for you to open a door or a window and in they fly! If you absolutely can't live without some fresh air in your home, use a window screen filter to let the pollen-free breeze in.
2.Avoid yardwork like mowing the lawn or raking leaves, which stir up even more allergens than are already airborne. If you cannot avoid yardwork, wear a pollen mask.
3. Don't turn on your attic fan.
4. Replace your furnace filters or wash electrostatic filters regularly to help clean pollen out of the air. You can also use vent filters on the room vents to catch anything that might have made it by the furnace filter or pollen and other allergens that may have already settled in your air ducts.

Mannn, I can NOT not open my windows! The breeze is so nice and my dogs are suffocating inside because I refuse to turn my air on this soon! So, I open my windows and turn on the ceiling fans. My cockers are all black and they came in with little pollen clouds following behind them and their coats have that greenish tint that is on everything, all over the city. I cranked up my air cleaners but I don't think they are working very well. It's just too much. My daughter told me there was pollen on the silverware in the drawer! I guess I will learn eventually... *sigh.
  • It is hard this time of year, I didn't want to turn on the AC either! I finally caved; we'll likely encounter some cooler weather again before it stays like this and we can turn our AC off again. I hope.
  • Just saw this post on AtlantaAllergy.com: Today, March 20, we surpassed our record pollen count set just yesterday of 8,164. Today's count is 9,639. At this level, people who normally do not suffer from springtime allergies can expect to experience some discomfort.

Jeepers! Is there anywhere else in the country or world that experiences pollen like we do here? I'm from the midwest and I had never seen anything like this before moving here.
