Painting bathroom walls that had wall paper on unpainted drywall.

The walls are not too bad but bad enough that I do not like it. I used a light colored satin paint, will sponge painting or any other technique work to help cover the flaws that still exist?

I have seen 'suede' paint look great under these conditions. There are different manufactures at paint stores or even big box stores. Best, Charles

Have you removed the wallpaper? If so, prime the "raw" areas of the drywall, skim it out, prime and paint. Sponge painting isn't going to hide those kinds of defects. You may want to prime and then texture the walls with a sand mix to create a stucco look. You could also prime and then do a faux finish with tissue paper that would also hide those defects. Removing wallpaper is a nightmare...especially if the walls weren't primed first....HandyANDY does it all the time...usually after a homeowner has started and realized it was too much work!

What about paneling over the scars with bead board, perhaps even chair rail height to draw the eye down and away from the suede look top?

I had 5 bathrooms with old ugly wall paper in a beach home we recently bought. I stripp one bath as ir was water damaged , but the destruction to th dry wall was significant because the wall had never been primed! That bath had to be completely mudded over with drywall plaster and sanded inbetween coats 3x. The next 4 were mudded over the seams only and sanded and then painted 2x with a eggshell paint . A couple bubbles cut out and those areas patched and sanded. I very pleased with the result. Note that none of these were embossed or flocked wall paper!
