Turn a 1980's light fixture into a lantern for your garden!

Don't throw it out! ....re-use it! We found this cool light fixture at a Thrift store and could not pass it up! With a little frost spray paint and black spray paint we gave it new life in the garden as a lantern!

Yep, that's hanging in my foyer right now too! Great idea though--maybe a good reason to replace it.

Jude, We sprayed the glass first, then used painters tape to cover the glass to spray paint the dividers.

    That's a home run Cultivators.

Way to turn a piece of rubbish into a work of art. It looks a little Japaneesy.

You could wire it up to be plugged in similar to a lamp or use candles or flameless candles

You could also install those light bulbs that flicker like candles.

Rhonda, is it a traditional bar without globes? You could repurpose it as a centerpiece on a table and add candles in the light sockets. Paint a new finish and maybe embellish it a bit. Be sure to post a photo if you do re-use it.

Nice job! I've seen the same type of thing done with chemical etching and sand blasting which is more dangerious and requires more tools.

Great idea. We throw away so much stuff. Pretty soon we will run out of place to throw away things. When we purchased our old home and decided to build a new one in its place, we looked for a company which would take our home for free. They came with large saw and cut the home like a cake and hauled it away and reassembled it (they sold it for $30,000.00).

They accept donations and sell a lot of overstock, used stuff.

I have one of those in a lantern, it looks very cool. Doesn't put out much light but makes a great night light since it doesn't use a lot of electric.
