how to get rid of a ground growing lichen in shade garden

Question

I have a small shade garden off the front of my home, I have many shade plants that love it and grow well, but I also have all this lichen that grows and in that grow all the weeds, any ideas how to keep it from gowing?

Are you sure it's a lichen? They usually grow above ground.

if it's dark green, it isn't a lichen. could it be pennywort?

I found it it is liverworts, however i did not find how to get rid of it, any answers????:)

Liverworts are one of the oldest plants on earth, dating to the Devonian Era, which was something like 400 million years ago, so unless you eliminate the conditions they thrive in - high humidity, high nutrient levels and high soil moisture-it will be difficult to control them, even when using herbicides. Your best shot is probably a 5 percent solution of acetic acid.

To eliminate some invasive vinica, I finally covered the area with roof shingles.  It worked like a charm.
