I live on the west coast, and to clean our shells we place them in a bucket of water with a little bleach.....cleans and takes away all fishy odor.....plus any creatures that are hiding. I leave them in bucket for a week somewhere out of the way of pets and kids...then rinse well and we dry them on old news papers....

Amy I tried using the Martha Stewart Liquid Guilding. It was easy to use. However when I sprayed the High Gloss Enamel Sealer ( as recommended) it turned the guilding RED! No gold tone ...just red. What happened????
