How to Make Beach Pail Bookends

was struggling to figure out what to do for bookends in the nursery when I came upon the idea to make beach pail bookends. I am so lucky that as my daughter and son in law come back from being stationed in Europe, I get to have my daughter and granddaughters stay with me for nine weeks!! EEEK! I can’t wait! I had to have a room that was suitable for those darling girls, and these little bookends will keep their books upright on a new shelf.
First I gathered my supplies:

Two small pails

Art Plaster

Styrofoam Eggs (balls could be used)

Craft Glue

Sand

Seashells
I filled each pail about 2/3 full with the Artplaster. For the product I used, it was 2 cups of dry plaster to 1 cup of water for each pail. Any plaster of Paris product would do.
Cut each egg of styrofoam in half and use the rounded half. Coat each with a thick layer of craft glue. Roll the glued styrofoam in sand to coat well.
After the sand has dried on the styrofoam balls, glue them onto the hardened plaster.
Using hot glue, attach seashells in a random pattern onto the sand.
Here are the pails up on the shelf holding those books. These pails are heavy enough to hold these children’s books upright with no trouble.

this is too cute for words...I wonder if it would work to try this with a larger metal bucket. Do the styrofoam balls come in larger sizes?

I'm all about saving money, so wouldn't a Styrofoam ball cut in half work?
