love the paper towel tube idea....thanks for the link! -
These are great flowers are lovely but would also like to try herbs in them parsley, cilantro are a couple that come to mind some also have flowers to make it more attractive. -
Great idea putting herbs would be good too. -
Herbs are a great idea, Anne, but I'm not sure about the cilantro since it bolts in the heat. -
u're very welcome. Glad I found it from BHG magazine and use on search engine for more info & ideas. Here we are to enjoy our strawberry containers w/ many different ideas...... -
I've planted chives, thyme and oregano in my strawberry pot and kept it near my back door for easy "harvesting." The chives get beautiful flowers. -
I planted gladiola bulbs in mine, including the side holes. Was quite attractive when they bloomed. -
Thanks Vicki! This is a great idea and will be a fun project for me and 5yr old. She has been wanting to plant several different herbs plus flowers. This will do the trick all in one pot. -
@Sandra L. You planted Glads in your strawsberry container??? Wow - I'll bet that looked really neat - and certainly different!! I'm trying to get a mental image here. So you gently & lovingly placed the bulbs in the side holes (OR as I really want to say - you stuffed those puppies in there and dared them to come out) LOL. Now, when they sprouted they then righted themselves and grew upward??? I think I'm gonna hafta try this!!! Thanks for another great idea!! -
I would like to try this with a tomato plant on the top and herbs on the sides. Would there be any problem/conflict with the tomato plant? -
I don't think so, Sharon, although tomatoes are heavy feeders so the herbs are going to have strong competition. -
thanks! love this! -
@douglas hunt Thanks! I got a compact tomato plant for the top, lemon thyme, sweet basil, greek oregano & italian parsley for the sides. -
-
Sharon: now you've got a sauce pot! LOL! -
Oh Doug - you are on TOP of your game today!!! -
I grow cherry tomatoes on the top and different herbs on the sides...I have been doing this for 5 years, with the same contrainer, and it works great... -
I have this container in my zen garden with mint, will have to redo with screen. Great idea, thanks for posting.

What magazine is this idea from? Is it from Better Homes And Garden? If so what issue?
-
I checked my first picture and it was Southern Living magazine. It was more than one years ago. I no longer have it. -
Oh the fabulous ideas your giving me!!!!! Thank you for sharing such creative ideas! -
Love the idea of the screening. To aid in watering, I drill holes in a PVC pipe (about 2" in diameter) maybe 8-10 holes all around. Now I will add screening here as well .Then before putting in the soil place the pipe in the center, leaving just enough room at the top to water. Be careful not to get soil in the center of the pipe.. -
u are very welcome. that is what Hometalk is for to share awesome ideas, pictures. My favorite Hometalk.
