I am having to replace the roof of my house because of poor ventilation in the attic.

The back of my house has no eave, i.e. the roof line ends at the back wall. Would it make sense to extend my roof line to add an eave and soffit vent? The roofers have a product that is a combination rain shield and vent that will improve ventilation. It costs a lot less, but will it be as effective as a new eave?

You can keep re-roofing. You're gonna need some kind of ventilation. The eave/soffit vent sounds OK. Have you considered a powered vent? Maybe solar-powered? They aren't that expensive.
