Window treatment for 5 windows

Dee
by Dee
I have 4 tall enclosed porch double hung windows. They were put in right next to each other to enclose a porch. This is an income property and the tenants need privacy as the 4 porch windows look into French doors in the living room area.
I need easy window treatment that tenants can open and close when they want to sit on the enclosed porch or when they want the living room to have privacy. Any help much appreciated.
We're fixing up the house, it's actually starting to look good (this photo is a few months old)but these porch windows look right into living room through the French doors and at night there's no privacy

I purchased a window treatment at Home Depot that looks like a matchstick blind. It attaches very easily to the inside of the window frame with two screws and is a nice looking alternative to blinds or curtains. Neat pleated look when raised. They're available at Home Depot in by the regular blinds.

You're right they don't block out completely but this particular brand is more fabric-like. It's worth taking a look

Have you considered Cellular shades? They now have Up/Down shades. I have a sunroom on the back of my house and have up down shades on mine. Here is the website I used: w ww.shadesshuttersblinds.com. Hope this helps.

My daughter has large double windows that face an alley. She wanted to find curtains long enough to hang near her high ceiling and wide enough to provide fullness and privacy. She also wanted something that would filter and not block the light from outside. After pricing several options, she decided to sew them herself. Then the problem became finding the right fabric. My suggestion was cotton sheets. We ended up finding off-white king size cotton flat sheets that were also wrinkle free. A few simple hems to get the right height and width and she had curtains that were reasonably priced, easy to make, and that not only serve the purpose but are easy to wash. They are also very pretty!

Fabric added to the panes with rubber cement in the corners will allow natural light and privacy for pennies.

Use sheets for the fabric...cheapest way to get a large piece of fabric. Put in large grommets and use plumbing pipe for 2 long rods. Quick, now sewing and quick!

    Thanks! Like the pipe idea!

I've actually used shower curtains made of fabric for curtains. Just use pvc pipe and regular curtain rings to hang.

Dee, am not sure of your budget but have you thought of using shutters? The other thing I would suggest are 2" faux wooden shades. They come in white and wood color. Lowes and HD carry them and they can be cut to fit if you have odd sized windows. You can make an inexpensive window cornice for the tops of the windows. Good luck with your project :)

I think shutters would be really expensive for 5 windows in a rental house. I too have used fabric shower curtains as window covers in past homes, and received compliments. You can find inexpensive ones in home goods stores, and there are also a variety of interesting shower rings (plain & fancy).

Make rod(s) out of galvanized pipe and fittings. Either purchase outdoor drapes or make some out of canvas drop cloths from the paint department of ny store.
