My Refurbished Furniture

Antique headboard I refinished to go with my decor for my bedroom, and an old white shutter I bought at a yard sale and made into a wall decoration for hanging hats or jewelry or whatever I choose.

Great job on the headboard, Rhonda, and I am always happy to see shutters being creatively repurposed.

I suprised my wife a few yrs. back and did this with an old, steel garage service door ..antiqued it and trimmed it out. Also added some reading lights. Turned out pretty good.

Old shutters are the best things....... I've used them for planters, to hang stuff from (like this one) and a couple hinged together for a small privacy screen for the porch. Still have a few left - this old house has plenty of windows!

very pretty. What color was the wood when you started? Did you have to strip it?

the wood was a med. brown, not a walnut but not a maple, but I did not strip it. lightly sanded and painted the green with a dry brush tech. and then dry brushed a little bit of cream over it, when that was dry I used a med. gel stain on top and wiped it for an antique effect.

BTW: I went to my roadside and reclaimed a shutter my forward-thinking husband threw away for garbage. Inspired after joining this website. You have justified my reasoning.
