I Call Her the Rock Star Princess!!!

A couple years ago a friend of mine decided she wanted a "rock and roll" make over done to a dresser so she could have it in her new place. She wasn't quite sure what she wanted, but one trip to Hobby Lobby and she had a bunch of knobs she wanted put on it. I had a dresser I had gotten to makeover and she decided that was the one for the transformation. There was quite a bit of back and forth with her trying to figure out what she wanted, and what color, and she kept adding to the collection of things she wanted on it ( Harley Davidson handles anyone?) so after she had changed her mind on color for the 10th time, I asked her to just allow me to take over and trust me to give her something cool. To my surprise she said ok. I painted the top and inside drawers a seal grey by Behr which I had made into a chalk paint with Plaster of Paris and water. Then I put Elmers glue on very heavily covering the inside drawers fronts and top. While the glue was still wet, I applied a black paint directly over the top to get a heavy cracking. That gives you a wicked tiger like crackling which was perfect for this makeover. I got all kinds of nail heads big and small and grey crystal like ones as well. I just added them with the handles/ knobs she had gotten for me and it started looking rock and roll. The bottom drawers were made over with black leather belts. For the 'buckle' I used a small picture frame that had bling on it. Then put s knob in the middle. But as I was almost finished she threw me a curveball and wanted either Marylyn Monroe, or James Dean or some iconic figure like that on it somewhere. So I went to a few of my fave places for images and found a few Marylyn rock type images and we created stencils with them to use on the doors and sides.
All in all, it was frustrating to figure out what to do with the overwhelming and ever changing ideas she had. But when I trusted my instincts, I was able to create something fun and that I'm proud of. This isn't for everyone, but it sure is a fun piece! We call her the "Rockstar Princess" and I think the name fits!!!
