Dog Beds

Left over tongue and groove oak flooring was repurposed to build this bed for our four shar pei. Two sleep on the top bunk and two sleep under...everyone is happy! Two hexagon entries allow the puppies fun places to run and play. Our shar pei are true family members and love to spend their nights "guarding" us.

Looks like a great "doggie condo". We has an "ADA type doggie ramp up to our bed for our wiener and Petite Brabancon

Vicky, hubby built this by measuring the length of the two dog beds (35 inches) + the height of the bed and dreamed up the rest. However, he has been asked several times about building another bed. He is working on plans. This particular bed is on wheels because it is so heavy. We used a lot of repurposed oak (from the old floor being ripped out) and the new floor we put in.

It nice that your bedroom can accommodate the extra length at the foot of the bed

We are very fortunate that our room is so large. This bedroom was an add on. In order to balance the house, the room had to be large Our b/r measures 22x24, this doesn't include the bathroom and laundry area. We've been renovating our home since 2004 when we moved to NC. Most people would have bought a new home, but this was my grandmother's home, which was built in 1918. Thank goodness my hubby is such a handyman! Not only does he build doggie beds, he does a lot of remodeling. And ...»
yes we do love our shar pei. In fact, today, we just picked out our new addition. She will come to our home in 4 more weeks.

My three pups would just continue on to the big bed and my pillow, but I sure would like to have one if my bedroom was large enough. It does save space. I am now considering a double decker sort of deal for my kitty kats (only for litter boxes) in my hallway, after I have moved the bookcase to another spot (where I don't know yet). Great idea for either.

My hubby said the pups would stay on our bed also. But, he built the bed anyway, andt, he was wrong. They absolutely love their new bed. I have seen doggie beds that look similar to nightstands. Those should work in a smaller bedroom. You may want to consider looking for those.. Re the litter boxes, wouldn't you have to have an area for the overflow of litter, where the kitties scratch the litter out ? Maybe you could build something with three sides around each litter box? Let me know what you come up with

Awwwwh, that is so sweet that they love their very own bed. Thinking if I had more room, mine would like their own as well. I am thinking more open ended for the litter thingy. like an upside down end table with four legs and a little ladder for the older guy to get to when the younger brats dirtied the lower fresh one before I could get to it. my girl kitties are such spoiled, selfish brats..... they run to potty in the fresh litter every time.... my darling Maine Coon boy... The Sugar is the true gentleman and let's them.

This is such a GREAT set up! My husband and I have 4 fur children of our own, but they are kitties. We only have a full sized bed, and they ALL insist on sleeping in bed with us EVERY night. It gets a little crowded. When we move to own new house (in about a year) I think I might build something similar to this, but all one level (for sleeping) and the underneath for playing. The stairs are such a great idea too. As you mentioned, it helps prevent injury and makes it a whole lot ...»
safer for them to get up and down!

I absolutely LOVE when people Re-purpose things instead of just throwing them out. Our landfills are getting too full as it is and there is already too much toxic waste in there. Why add more to it if we don't have to? A++ for creativity!!! Thanks so much for sharing Debi!!!!
