Dresser Refurnish Ideas

I got this small dresser for free and really want to make it my next project. I have already removed the hardware and started to strip the paint from the top but I have no idea what I should do from there. Sand it, primer it and paint? Or should I try to stain the wood? I would like to use it as a nightstand but because my room is without a color scheme or overall style I'm open to any and all ideas.

I would use chalk paint. That way you don't have to mess with stripping it. You can distress it or not. After you paint it then you wax it. The wax makes a better finish than varathe. @Alysha Slater looks like a nice piece. Perhaps when you are done stripping you will have a better idea. Do a search on here for dressers - lots of amazing ideas here. If you like the wood but are intrigued by the painting experience, you may consider doing both. You could stain the top surface, if you really like it you can continue on, if not consider painting all of the other surfaces, if you don't like it you can still paint the top. There are many examples of this on this site. Thanks for posting and be sure to update us with a pic of your finished piece.

It is a cute little dresser. I would be tempted to paint it a metalic. Stainless-bushed.

I love that dresser! Wouldn't it be lovely to have two! I would do white with either black accent or all white with crystal knobs. Have fun!

Don't mess around with stripping, use chalk paint. It is worth the price and a little goes a long, long way.

I never strip, ha I just use oil base primer and oil base paint. I would love to try chalk paint though its a tempting change from waiting 2 days between coats. Just put 3 coats of oil base black semi gloss on a bathroom vanity. Looks awsome

With the way the drawers are edge routed I think it would be gorgeous with1/8" thick glass (ground edge) cut right to the lip of router edge. What glass company is cutting glass have then drill the hardware holes. Paint rich darkish taupe. Then apply mirror fronts, crystal handles (Hobby Lobby w/40% discounts) and you have a " forever, go-with-anything, piece.

Gardnerville , Nv..??!! I have been there, I am previously from Vegas, as well as Long Beach CA !..Chalk paint is your ' new best friend"...No priming. Nothing. Just be sure to let dry COMPLETELY between coats, usually two are enough and you can use a soft wax to really give it a lovely professional look. you can even use Minwax soft paste wax. makes a difference in how it looks. :) As for color....you have to consider where you are placing it and then decide if you want to make it stand out a little or not. And a piece of special cut thick glass would look amazing, on the top of it. Depending on your decorating style...I agree with the comment on the glass handles. Would look amazing !
