How do I change my laminate countertop from matte to gloss?

The countertop is from Lowes, it is a fake black granite look in matte finish.  I want to add sheen to it so it looks more realistic.

Shining With Polishing Products

Protect your hands with rubber gloves.

Dip a soft, clean, cotton cloth into paste car wax.

Apply the wax to a clean countertop, rubbing in a circular motion.

Allow the wax to sit for about 10 minutes.

Wipe the counter with a clean cotton cloth to remove excess wax.

You can also use REJUVENATE KITCHEN & BATH Countertop Polish along with many others.
Of course these are only temporary and will have to be redone.

I would purchase a Giani paint kit (80.00). You could add a little color if you wanted and the top coat makes it very shiny.

If this is laminate you can actually apply glossy polyurethane, which is actually the finish coat for the countertop re-do kits you see on the market.  Before your final coat (it might need 2 or 3 thin coats of the poly) sprinkle a little bit of extra extra fine glitter around on the counter top that will give it a shimmer when the light hits it and appear like granite.  Look in the craft dept. for the extra extra fine glitter.  Good luck!

Cheap trick use coconut oil it is safe, doesn't peel off or chip, you would have to reapply if you use cleansers...but like I said it's cheap. I use it on my stained bar top, and chopping board.

There is a product called Famowood Glaze coat it is like 70 coats of varnish. I haven't used it but a friend who does wood carving uses it and his pieces look like they are glass. He gets it from Lowes.com

Unless you put a clear resin type of finish over them, I can't see how you will get a permanent shine? Clear Contact for glass would be ok if you use counter top savers all the time, maybe? Maybe see if you can get your counters replaced or re-laminated with a finish you will be happy with.
