Wood floor color for the living room

We put new wood floors in our living room and wanted to go without a transition piece between wood and tile. This wood seems to change colors due to light. I am so upset about this and looking for answers to "tone down the red" I plan on putting an area rug in this area but I'm looking for a recommended color. HELP!

I studied color in college & I think what you may be seeing is reflection of others in your floors... For example - red is opposite of green in the color wheel - so if you put something with a green tone next to a brown that has red undertones (like your floors) the floors will flash as red... I would suggest that when you purchase a rug, you take a sample of the floors, the tile (from your dining/kitchen), a paint chip & the arm cover of your sofas with you to look at rugs. I also can't tell what color your trim is? If it is stained a brown with a green undertone then the floors will look more red. One way to test is to go to the dollar store & get a sheet of white poster board & lay it over a section of trim/paint & then cup your hands around your eyes so you just see the floors & the white & see if you still see red. When I shop for furniture I always take my 'kit' with me - it's a small satchel with a ziploc bag of samples by room that contains the paint chips, fabric swatches, tile chips, flooring, etc... Lighting ALWAYS makes a difference in big box stores, too - florescent lights are not your friend when you are trying to match & compare fabrics & colors - always, always take samples home & look at them at different times during the day - daylight, at night, etc... I personally LOVE the floors & I especially love the fact that you chose a wide plank & they are lovely with the tile - but it is time for some color, too! I see you are drawn to the light teal which is really nice - take that pillow to a fabric store with your samples & pick a print or stripe & recover your dining chairs & then get some drapes that match one of the other colors in the print (there are dots on the edge of the fabric with the different colors in the prints/stripes). The folks in the fabric store will be able to help out when using prints & stripes. Don't be afraid of trying different things - the investment of paint is cheap & having your dining chairs recovered would be a small investment (as opposed to a couch). I'm not sure this helps, but I hope it has given you some options to consider! I LOVE your tile & floors & think they will serve you well over the years to come - you just need to find your color groove!

@Andrea Mosse Brown I think you should consider painting all of your trim white or off-white - you will want to try a couple of samples (pick up the large samples from the paint store & tape them up down next to the floor - not all white is the same) - this will make a HUGE difference in what you are seeing... I know painting the trim may be a big deal & I could get backlash from stained trim purists, but consider it... It will change your world! I did it & it made a big difference in our home (we had med oak stained baseboards & trim in parts of our house) - once I painted it all the same white it really made a big difference - it started to pull it all together - the house didn't seem so "choppy" after that to me.

I do not like the color scheme of the room. The walls need to lighten up to near white. Th old fashioned wood table and chair set bring the eye in conflict with the wood floor, making it jump the space. I would switch the table set it out or paint at least the chairs and bottom of table. I personally would get rid of the tile flooring. It is not very attractive, color is not compatible with wood and makes the rooms look like they belong in two different houses. Sorry, but just a rug is not going to solve your problem.
