My mosaic pieces.

I create mosaics out of cast off furniture, some of which is cosmetically flawed. I use cut-up china dishes, stained glass and other objects. This art form is called Pique Assiette and I'm self-taught. I do commission work and sell my pieces in galleries. Here are some pieces.

You are very gifted and talented. I do some mosaics but nothing as beautiful as this. I had a friend once tell me that doing mosiacs is not true art. Excuse me, look at the cathedrals in Europe! I wish she could see your work. You are an artist! She's an ex-friend now!

Love it still, and the new piece too! How long does it take you to do something like this?and obviously you have a pattern in mind before starting?

Bernice - It varies on how long it takes me. Once I start a project, I work for hours on it to complete the cutting and gluing of the surface. I have never had a pattern in mind on anything I do. It just comes to me as I go. Sometimes I'll put something down on the surface and stand back and look at it and don't like it, and then I try something else. What I love about doing this is I never know how it will turn out. There is a wonderful surprise element.

No doubt the bench is just as lovely as any you have done.. You go girl. I hope you have found a place to display your beautiful peices. I have a friend who did the most beautiful clay pieces. She did mostly extinct animals. She had shows all over in New York and other places where whe sold her art for the prices she deserved.

Where do you get all the glass pieces for the mosaic art?

I buy my glass pieces as stained glass sheets at a stained glass shop. You can also purchase stained glass tiles on eBay. If anyone wants to follow my mosaics and other things I post which highlights the shabby chic and cottage style of decor, you can follow it on Facebook.
