A Gray Buffet With a Surprise on the Inside

Classy on the outside, happy on the inside. This is how I painted this beautiful Jacobean buffet.

The Before and After.

This is how it looked before sanding and cleaning. The buffet was in fairly good shape but parts of the veneer were missing or damaged so it needed some wood filler.

I spray painted the knobs and pulls with Rust-oleum bright coat (silver).

I primed the interior of cabinets and drawers with Rust-oleum white primer and the outside with Rust-oleum gray primer.

First I painted the inside of cabinets and drawers with Valspar Passionate Peony, using a spray painter.

After all the pink was dry, I sprayed Benjamin Moore Steel Wool on the outside areas making sure all pink areas were taped and covered to avoid overspray.

I mixed Valspar clear glaze with black latex paint (4:1) and applied the glaze over the gray paint using a cheap brush.

Glaze dries fast so I always apply it one small area at a time, then immediately wipe the excess with a baby wipe.

I sealed the entire piece with Minwax Polycrylic satin.

looking at the finished 'black' it really doesn't look anything like the pictures where you brushed on and rubbed off the glaze. The finished product looks like a sating black. It is beautiful, but I'm rather confused.

What brand names and colour of paint, wax, primer and glaze did you use?? Was the whole unit treated in the same manner as your doors because I really don't see to much of a difference with colour on your intire unit. ?? Please answer. Thank you. From Canada.

Hi again. So that glazing technique was also used in the diamond pattern? And in all the nooks & crannies? No dark wax?

Drop dead gorgeous! I'd love to find a buffet with that much detail to rework! Keep it up!
