Downspouts look nice when you don't see them. They are utilitarian and should be the color of the surrounding area, not breaking up the architectural lines of the house.
A Reroof, these are painted with our normal hi-end acrylic house paints that we paint the rest of the house with. The only qualification is that there should not be a glossy surface existing that we paint over. Otherwise, we would scuff it up with a sanding sponge.
We just went to a new development this weekend. The first thing my 22 yr old daughter noticed was those ugly white gutters against the brick and remarked how ugly that looked and how it ruined the look of the house. Pretty ironic, considering she never notices such things and I had just ready your post on her but hadnt told her LOL
I know I was amazed! However, she does have my gene pool and I was an Art major so I notice details, so she must have it too! Majorly big coincidence on the timing though!
This is a great idea. We need to have gutters installed in the back of our house since the builder didn't have any put in the back when we bought it new construction. I think that making it the same color of the house is a great idea and I would have never thought to do it this way since I don't think I have seen it before. It blends in nicely with the house. this is almost the same color we have on our house. We need to paint the trim and put the gutters up. Thanks for sharing.
All the little details make up a pretty picture.

Vicki, If you don't have a spare brick to bring in to match, pick up some color charts and try selecting a closer match that way.

You daughter could tell that off color downspouts break up the architectural lines of the house.
