widespread faucet in a 4 inch space

we are currently updating our bathroom. We decided to go with the Kohler Forte collection -- everything from the toilet holder to the roman tub/shower. We decided to go with the Forte collection because we loved the lavatory faucet. Then we found out that we have sinks with holes for the 4 inch centerset faucet instead of the widespread faucet. We don't want to change the vanty countrertop quite yet as the rest of bathroom rennovations is already causing a hemorrhage in our pocket book. But we also don't like the centerset look. This may be a dumb question but aside from it looking a little cramped, what real problem is there in using the widespread faucet in a sink with predrilled holes 4 inches apart?

Most 8" widespread faucets can be shrunk up some...but not to 4" the hot / cold flex lines etc. can not handle the extreme bends.

Is it possible to swap out just the sink with an 8" spread rather than the whole counter?

I was hoping it wouldn't be that serious. Thanks, KMS

Thanks. Plumber26. This Delta doesn't look too different from the Kohler collection we ordered. I'll show my husband and see what he thinks.
