Ugly Tile Fireplace Surround

We really hated this ugly colored tile. It made our living room look so small.
I decided to take a chance and just paint it since we don't really use the fireplace that much and with just two of us here it wouldn't get marked up too easily.
Now that I finished this project and reading about others painting tile, I would have done one thing differently, and that is starting with a heavy primer coat that is called Stix. The tiles are glossy enamel and I think the paint would be a lot sturdier and not as likely to mark up. I do love how bright and open it made the room now.
