Kids Room Update...Phase One

Problem...young teen age girls with a room that has not been "updated" to suit their individual style.
This bedroom was part of a 960 foot addition to my home back in 2001. I selected a warm tone for the wall that worked well with the natural stain grade woodwork and doors.
My girls are now 12 and 14 and want an "underwater" mermaid theme.
After a few days of coaxing ( they might use the term nagging) we got a handful of the clutter out and I got started with the primary wall color they picked out. I spent about 2 hours cutting in on memorial day, and followed up with a hour or so of rolling. The color went on a bit like robins egg blue but then dried a beautiful "kingman" turquoise.
We will add a lttle deep green on two small accent walls. Carpet cleaning comes later today and then we can start to bring in some of the furniture.
My hope is they will have a newborn sense of pride and will keep the place a bit tidy. I often have to walk the fine line between the nice awesome daddy and the evil dictator.

It is looking good! I like the color. Can't wait to see the final product.

A cool idea to get the girls involved is to buy colored poster board and research saltwater marine life. Cut out fish, coral etc and put it up with removable tape. They can have there very own Great Barrier reef with mermaids of course.
