From Aquarium Stand to Barn Wood Table!

We bought a metal aquarium stand at an auction for $2, with the idea to paint it and add shelves made out of barn wood to make it a table.
This is the vintage metal aquarium stand that was purchased at the auction.
First, I did a light sanding with steel wool - paying special attention to any rust spots. After spray painting the table with black paint for metal, we cut a couple pieces of barn wood and fastened them to the metal to make two shelves.
We applied a little varnish to the wood to give a smooth and slightly shiny finish.
Suggested materials:
  • Metal
  • Barn wood
  • Black spray paint

Hello, I am wondering what you used the table for. Isn't it a bit high for a chair side table. Would it work for an entry or a bedside? Thanks!

How did you attach the shelves

Where did you get the reclaimed barn wood? I was thinking of doing something similar and using it to store my crock pots and Instant Pot in my kitchen.

I have a similar plan but I'm hoping to place a cupboard I broke the leg off of as the top. Wish me luck for a project that turns out as great as yours!

I have been looking thru Craig's List for a large metal aquarium stand too. I want to do something similar only use it as an island in the kitchen. I hope to put castors on it so I can just wheel it over to the stove when I'm done chopping. I love the look of the woo on yours! Great job
