Caterpillars in the ground

What are the small, fat, whitish-yellowish caterpillars I keep finding in the ground when I dig in the garden? I find dozens of them every day. I don't have a picture but I can post one tomorrow.

If they have brownish heads and three pairs of legs, they are grubs. For photos and control strategies, see this article from the University of Georgia Extension Service:

    If not, post a photo.

    Sounds like a grub worm.

Japanese beetle bug larvae. Kill them when you find them by smushing them with your shovel.

Kate, I just found an article on them with a picture, and they are indeed Japanese beetles. I've been doing a lot of shallow digging in our garden and I'm finding loads of them in the ground.
