How to fix the water heater; is not working.

Is a water heater a.o.smith , model ELJF 40. IS LOCATED UNDER THE AIR CONDITIONING.

YESTERDAY THE TEMP. WAS SO HOT THAT YOU CAN VOT TOUCHED, AND TODAY IS COLD. TO ME COULD BE THE THERMOSTAT, THAT CONTROL RESISTENECES AND VALVES

    You might want the cycle the thermostat "knob" a few times...sometimes this will clean up the "contacts" and allow it to run true.

    Replace t-stats..... they are sticking and tripping b/c the temp is too high
