Question about deck building
The deck would be level with the main floor of the house, and the additional length of post would allow for a roof over the top.

SLS Construction & Building Solutions LLC on Apr 17, 2016I hate to say it but that should probably be 6x6... You may also have headroom issues if that deck is over an egress path from said basement. While you can probably set them yourself, a helper would be better - but I got to say if you are really questioning it, bring in a pro to build the frame & then why don't you finish it out yourself? If you wish to do it yourself - braces, braces, braces & install tie-togethers as you go. Finish the floor frame first & then work on the "roof". Make sure these are all sitting on proper foundations using Post Base Anchors that will keep the wood up an inch above the concreteHelpful Reply
