If your potting soil has turned so hard that water runs off, you need to take it out, break it up and moisten it thoroughly before planting again. If you've used the soil for several seasons, it may be time to add it to the compost pile and start with fresh. -
I think you are right. it is powdery and dry,not hard, but maybe i need to start fresh. The hostas won't mind being moved, they are such good little kids!and the daylilies!
