How do you handle the bird droppings?
  • Stacy Cobb Stacy Cobb on Aug 25, 2014
@Mary, the entire trellis is now covered in vines and Bogenvia so more than bird droppings (which i get but very little) it just gets dusty and dirty quickly and the bogenvia drops a TONS of leaves. I cover the couches with 3 large table cloths that i found in Napa. They are super cute so I don't mind looking at them and can leave on if I'm not having people over. It only takes second to pull them off, they are cotton washable and have made my life easier. I also have a dog, cat and that big backyard!! so the cream colored cushions are not working for me. I'm in the process of changing. All new cushions would be very expensive so I found some super cute textiles at the Rose Bowl flea market and new pillows on sale, I'm in the process of a little makeover. I will still use the Napa covers bc it just makes life easier :o) On another note.. all my friends love the outside so much everyone wants to eat on the patio and never inside, so I invested a chunk of $$ in a custom tiled outdoor dining table that is lower than a standard size but high enough you can pull up chairs AND use the couch as seating for the table. If you are interested I will post all pictures when I'm done and it's all pulled together. I did a little botox inside as well, maybe it was a midlife crisis but I needed a change and it was cheaper than a facelift well not that much cheaper :o) thx for writing, such a great question. I have found through my design process (i restored a 1930 home in Laurel Canyon) that i made a lot of mistakes not thinking through and wanting what was pretty in the moment but unless you have a full-time housekeeper was impossible to maintain.
