Anything you do before it is evenly and throughly 'kiln dry' is asking for more work later. Just wait until it is all thoroughly dried in, out and under. I am sure you have plenty of other things to do today.

As a former professional painter, its going to depend on your climate. If you ate dry and arrid i speculate 4-7 days. If you are humid probably 2 or more weeks. We use moisture meters about $30 at a paint retailer. You will probably know right away when you start sanding, your paper will get a goo. GL

I live in Louisiana! Very humid! And in the past month or longer, we haven't seen more than a day or two of no rain.

Wait till it's totally dry. As it dries some of the wood will more likely crack and check. Then you can salvage the good wood and put it to use.

I don't have an answer but I'm looking forward to the answers you get! That plagues me, too. By the time I feel it's dry enough it rains again!
