Does It Bite?

Clara C. sent me these photos. Upon looking at this creature, I recognize two things: what it is and its sex.

Can you do the same?

Is it a male earwig? I have read that those rear pincers can pinch you but not biting

they are earwigs..they are nocturnal. They do not like to live in your house but tend to move in if you have alot of rain. They like the moss in planters and will eat your vegetation. I fought those nasty bugs for 2 years. I had to hire an exterminator. Get after them right away.

It's a male earwig (females have pincers that are almost straight).

They don't "bite" people but they can damage plants if there is a big population. One source says to put a half inch of oil in an empty tuna can to entice them to crawl in and drown. A 12" roll of newspaper or corrugated cardboard lures them as well.

Populations don't often explode but it's nice to know what these critters are.
