Help me style my balcony!!

Hi I am looking for ideas on how to decorate the balcony above the front porch. It only has access from a window and we rarely use it, but I would really like to decorate it so it looks good. Any suggestions are appreciated. :-)

How about a pretty silk tree and some artificial flowers in planters that you can attach to the railing.

Birdhouse and feeders? Maybe a good solid planted low height evergreens that require little watering (would have to consult with local nursery) or get one of those extension waterers you could use from the window.

Janet has the right idea! A couple silk trees at each cornet would look nice. I would also put out a small table and two chairs centered to give the appearance of being used. Like a small bistro set. I don't know where the window leads from, but I also would consider patio doors in the future and use the space. A nice place to spend a lazy afternoon/evening with a glass of wine or my choice, a tankard of beer.

Put a wreath on the wall or some iron, then put some beautiful large pot on it.what ever color goes with your taste.Make that two pots.small bistro set will be good in the middle.Good luck.

I'd use some tall, thin, fake, topiaries. at ea. corner. In some huge, interesting pots that coordinate with your color scheme. Then add a few smaller, ferns, poking out the rails around the bottom. Get some greenery up there. i don't think I'd use chairs & furniture, unless it's a bench with some smartly placed solar lighting. Seeing as though you don't really use it often.

do you want it to look like the balcony is used? If so a small bistro set would be enough,I wouldn't overwhelm the space with large or too much furniture. Home Goods often has a stray bistro/cafe table and chair. If you don't need it to look usable than I agree plants would look nice. Maybe wind ivy around the railing a little.

Hi, I'm not on as often as I would like ,but anything in decor solution in triggers me. My take is that first off you need to add some Colour ,two contrasting shades, they don't have to be loud ,they can be muted. Then leafy trees, and some thing of interest,so that when you look out the window it has a purpose. What are you interested in. It can be a single stand alone pieceor a chime ,or something that spins .

We have a similar porch on our house and also one on the side. This porch too is accessed only from a window. On the side upper we have a door and I have four Bertoila (sp?) chairs with a small round table. I concentrate on the first floor porches. In fact the only idea I have had for the upper porches is a tightly secured Christmas tree, but have not as yet done it. You have a great house.

I'd make sure the theme coordinated with the first floor porch. Maybe some planters perched on the railing with some ivy that hung down a bite and some ferns or hosta. Have to make sure you remembered to water them and use something that loved sunlight. I like the idea of some artificial tea rose topiaries to add some height at the corners, front and back. A piece of art hanging on the blank wall would be nice as well.

I would attach a long piece of lattice to the left of the window and weave in silk vines, and maybe add some clematis-looking flowers. This way you don't have to water and it still looks good in the winter. If you have a small table and a couple of chairs to put near the window, that would look cute, too. Santa can sit in one of the chairs during the holidays. I've seen a privacy wall made with silk vines and lattice. It looked great!

@Liz Straughn I like the lattice idea and of course Santa Claus. :-)

Why post and then only acknowledge one or two helpful comments? Many took time to offer help.

Flower boxes. You can change flowers out for fall and winter with evergreens then back to flowers in the spring. A couple of nice trees about 5 to 6 feet tall on each side of the door would be nice too. : )

Thank You IFortuna. We get possession of the house September. 1st. Excited to dig in to it!
