Deck halfway around a swimming pool

We have a deck that extends the entire length of our house. Recently we had to tear down an old swimming pool and the deck went halfway around it. We are not going to be putting in another pool so are left with a half moon cut out. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what we can do other than filling it back in with new wood?

Stone or paver patio with a fire pit. Maybe some benches built into the curve? Or steps all around that could double as benches?

We have the same thing! Thinking outdoor kitchen or fire pit in the middle.

Put a set of steps in the middle going down to a fire pit and seating area. And also put a railing along both side of the new steps all the way to wrap around the ends. Paint the posts on the railing white and stain the top and the old deck and the steps. Add white chairs around the fire pit. Or you could plant a tree in the middle instead of a fire pit and plant perennials like hostas and some colorful annuals around the tree .

@Dawn Dawson you have had some good suggestions so far. If putting in a fire pit make sure your bi-laws permit it - we can't do that in our neighbourhood as it is against fire regulations, but I would love to have one. There are a number of things you can do with the space. You could put a prefab pond in with a garden around it and maybe a cobblestone/flagstone sitting area (looks like the base already exists). You will need to add easy access to the lower level. but that may already exist and just isn't captured in the pic. You could also put in a fountain with a sitting area near it. Or you could just dirt over it and plant grass seed or sod. I will be interested in the many answers you are about to receive from the creative people on this site. Do keep us posted with pics and thanks for posting :)

Plant sod in the areas where there is no grass. Add a stone or brick wall against your curved area to make the deck look intentional. Add a stairway to the lower area to give entry to the rest of the yard.

You can level out the current deck so that it is no longer circular. You can add steps and create a fire pit with seating in the center.

Personally I'd add a round gazebo! Screen it in and you have a lovely place to dine or relax without the bugs getting to you.

It is always good to have different levels in a space. The hardest part is seeing it with out the pool. Always make a negative a positive. I read some of the ideas above and they are great. It is a cozy space waiting to happen. I think the first thing you need to address is the space under the deck. Look for a material that you can cover the opening. If you like plants it is a great place to put a climbing Clematis Jackmanii. If you add a trellus above it will help balance the structure. It can be a fun place to view the yard and then walk down to the lower level. A pond, firer pit, Japanese garden with stones, or a space for vegetables. Have fun and find what is right for you and your life style.

Our deck was about 4 feet off the ground. My husband lowered it down, trimmed off the curve and we put in our pit. The patio portion is still a work in progress.

I am a big fan of PONDS!!! You then can feed them right off the side of your deck. Put a fountain in it and you have soothing sounds to accompany you with your morning cup of coffee.

I agree w/ lori j except I would do 1 of the fire and water features where you have a fountain that is also a gas fire pit don't worry if you do not have natural gas as these can also be propane and you can have a small tank (just like used on a grill) and hide it under the deck its self you would also need to get decorative latticing to hide under thw deck unless you did a interesting shade garden under there w/ hardy ferns mosses maybe some wild violets and smaller varieties of hosta

Start with railings, steps down (a nice wide staircase) and a pretty round paver patio to fill in the area. I like the idea of a fire pit, but it can always be added later. Get the base there first. Cover the rest of the underside of the deck with lattice. Start with the basics, add and expand as you go. This has GREAT potential.

How about a step down into a shorter patio with an adorable table set that has an umbrella in it. Benches around the outer edge with a rail all around except where the step down is on one side.

a set of angled stairs down to grade out of the center sections and then incorporating the remaining parts of the framing into trellis or lattice work. I can draft for you if you want to send a couple of quick pics.

half moon stone slab over sized bench with a fire pit in the center of the circle. The photo doesn't show what this half moon would be facing but perhaps it could face an outdoor movie screen and movies could be projected on the movable screen for summer evening fun.
