Thanks Miriam!! It's a fun project! A great way to add something special to a built-in cabinet.

Wow (there's that word AGAIN!) The difference between the stark white and adding the embossing & warmth w/the antique glazing is just phenomenal !! Really classy job!!

That is a great trick when working with painted cabinets. If you want to work on natural or stained wood pieces you can get a whole bunch of embossed molding type pieces to give even more "depth"

I used some on this custom mantle I built.

Thank you Susan! And I agree KMS, anytime you add embossing of any sort, it transforms! Love the mantle detail!

I am no expert, Nancy. It might require a good primer, but I'd test it first!

This is great. I have seen it done on walls but never cabinets. How well did it hold up after say a rear or so of use?

Bad idea, as you brush up against them, kids, animals, cloths, etc, the spackling with break down and start coming off. Also, rubbing them down while cleaning will do the same as spackle paste isn't water proof. Made the mistake of trying this sort of thing on a wall.

Great question Joan. I completed it 6 mos. ago, and it's holding up great! It's in my Dining Room, so we don't use it daily, but I'm getting things out of the drawers and cabinets pretty regularly. It seems to be stuck on there really well....I sanded it a bit before painting also and it held up to that!

Adam, I painted over my spackling, and that seems to be protecting it from wear and tear. My piece also, isn't in a high traffic area.

Just a thought, but how about adding some wood glue to the spackle?

Nancy T, I believe that if you cleaned first fist with TSP, then painted an oil based solvant primer, then you could do this. That is how I prepare formaica and slick ceramic tiles before I do a faux granite finish and then over top use as last 2 coats of satin water based poly. It will be there forever. Maybe try on one cabinet to see if your really want on all cabinets.
