Storage area turned into a play school!

One of my clients needed more play area in her house for her 4 kids, under the age of 5 so I turned her under-the-stairs storage area into a fun, colorful play school. A nice coat of white glossy paint, alphabet stickers, vinyl lettering and a few cookie sheets turned into magnetic boards!

More pictures of the before and after:

and while you're there, I'd love your support by liking my page : )

Kaza Design, life if too short to live in beige.

Thanks!

Love the cookie sheet magnetic boards. Very clever. I have some cookie sheets that have definitely seen better days in the oven, but this could be a good future for them. Also, where did you get the letters?

Steve most craft stores, Toys R Us and maybe even WM would probably have the magnetized letters as well as numbers too. I can't believe you have a child and don't know this or worse - that apparently he doesn't already have some. SHAME!!!

Hi Steve, the vinyl alphabet letters are from Target (Wallies® Wall Play Alphabet Fun Peel & Stick décor) and the black vinyl letters were cut with my cricut.

The magnetized letters and numbers can be bought at Walmart for $.97 each. Just bought a set of the letters for my grandkids. I need to get more because they are packaged with 26 letters, so no doubles.

Very nice! The kids can also do other things in that space. They can play restaurant, trucks and lots of other things they'll think up. A really cheerful room! (And to think I used the stair space just for storage.)

Susan, I am remiss in not getting these for my little man yet. I'll have to remedy that.

Unfortunately, I have a bunch of more urgent projects on the list ahead of this. I'll stick to teaching him his letters through his Dr Seuss ABC book for now.

Oh sure . . . . just let the little man's education go by the wayside!! That's ok cause I imagine good ole Dr. Seuss, Sesame St etc. have rescued alot of us!!

This is a FANTASTIC renovation Karina! It reminds me of one of the shows on tv (I can't remember the name) where a team of competitors go in and remodel rooms or houses. This definitely looks like the work of a professional! I'm sure that those 4 kids and the Mom and Dad are Very Thankful that you did this for them! Have you thought about doing into this professionally? You would be great at it! ...»

Thanks for posting this so we could all enjoy it and get great inspiration from you!

This is great use of this area. What most people don't realize is that the stairway is your first means of escape in case of fire, and when used for storage of paint cans and newspapers it can be dangerious. Your open walls and sheetrock provides much more time for egress of that living area. See I'll bet you didn't even look at it like that.
