Odor from water and ice in refrigerator

We change our water filter to our kenmore Elite refrigerator. Filter is in the bottom of the refrigerator. Anyway. We did this last Saturday. Ice still tastes bad. Water has improved. Any suggestions to waht could be wrong. I have emptied the ice bin oh, at least 4 times. So I would think by now it is water coming through the new filter. We got the filter at home depot. Inother words it was not specific kenmore. But I was told whirlpool is same company and it fit.??

was there a bad smell/taste before then? and is it isolated to the refrigerator or does the same occur @ the tap? Well water or city water?

It's likely not about the water supply at all if your tap water is fine. Most refrigerators (other than Subzero) share a compressor. What this means is that the air is shared between the freezer and the refrigerator. Bad tasting ice is often contributed to what is in the ref... Onions in a bin that doesn't seal the odor? Think of the foods you are storing in both sides. Are they in high quality type Tupperware that really seal odors?

no bad taste before . city water. The water has improved greatly since changing filter, just the ice.

If you have plastic or pvc lines to the icemaker they will hold the odor. Best if possible to run a new line into it.

You may also be getting some contamination from other items in the freezer. Have you "defrosted" and clean that out laterly? I use the term "defrost" despite the fact that nearly all freezers are "frost free"...getting the surfaces clean and clearing out the 4 year old tub of mystery food will improve things too.

If it is just the ice .. my guess still holds true. Odors from other foods... or surfaces

Another thought..
If the water inlet valve is damaged then this could also be because of the water inlet valve. This can leave the water exposed to smells inside your fridge which can make the ice taste bad.
