Anyone know the name of this flower?

Yesterday after the landscapers finished clearing the back of our lot, this flower was left standing all by itself. Does anyone know what it is? It is along at the top of the over 2 foot stem, but I believe I can see another unopened bud about 1/2 way down.

Dianthus come in all sorts of colors, but usually there is more than one. Mine came back from last year, but then we didn't have any winter.

Salsify. I've seen that plant growing as volunteers in roadside gardens.

The Salsify is it I think. I've never seen this plant before and I kind of like it. I think I'll let it live where it was uncovered. Shows to go ya what you'll find after 28 yrs of neglect! Also found 2 redwood trees about 2 ft. high and a little on about 4" high. Potting those up. In addition we found a 3 ft. high oak tree! This has been a real adventure. Wonder what else we'll find....Thanks all!

Are the leaves at ground level thin, narrow ones lik at the top of the plant or ar they more like dandelion leaves with jagged edges? If they're smooth, it's salsify. If dandelion like it's chicory.

I went out and checked the leaves at the bottom of the plant. They are the same as at the top. IT IS SALSIFY!

If its growing along side the road, its wildflowers. If its growing in your grass, its a weed. If your kids (or Grand kids) picked it, its a bouquet no matter where it came from.

The stem & leaves look like carnation. However, the flower looks like a cousin of the daisy.

My grandmother grew salsify in her vegetable garden, but I think I only ever saw the roots she brought in.
