Making Your Own Slip Covers

I've redecorated our family room several times - all with the same pieces of furniture - by making slip covers!
Here is how our room looks today...

And here is how it used to look...

The couch is the same couch - but simply covered in a slip cover that I made with less than $200 of fabric!

This is our original couch. We love this couch - deep, down filled cushions, solid construction.
I used a heavy, cotton canvasy fabric but you can use whatever fabric you choose. Make sure that it's upholstery or slip cover weight. Most fabric stores can tell you if the fabric you like is appropriate.

And here it is today. This style of couch is very easy to cover with this straight back and loose cushions. Looks just like a brand new couch from Pottery Barn!

Both of the white chairs in this room have also been slip covered.
If you can sew a straight line, you can make a slip cover!

There's not room here on HomeTalk to give you all the detailed instructions that are on my blog.

Oh my goodness!!! Can you come to my house??? Please!!! I love this room and I am so wanting to transition to this look. One of the biggest obstacles are my sofa and chairs. I priced having the sofa recovered and it was $700 for just labor. I haven't been able to find anyone who makes slipcovers. Your post has given me hope and inspiration that maybe I can do this. Thank you so much. The room is beautiful!
